The Establishment of Lagos Blue Economy Project, The Renaissance of the Ehingbeti Maritime Club event was held at the Glover Hall with Royal fathers, Lagos state ministries and Maritime stakeholders in attendance.
The Royal father of the day was the highly cerebral, amiable Royal Father, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal Akapo CON(Abisogun 11),Royal Mother of the day was no other person than our own brain and beauty, ageless Erelu Elegbede Fernande. The great business mogul Bashorun J.K. Randle (an accomplished Ehingbeti son) was the chairman of the day. Permanent secretary, fed.min.of transportation, Dr Mrs.magdalene Ajani, Mrs Jean Anishere(SAN), Mrs Ify Akerele to mention a few were all in attendance to watch the 1st ever Maritime documentary of Ehingbeti.
This was EKO before the name changed to lagos state.
Eko has been blessed with both Atlantic and lagoon waters, so the parlance Toju o ba ti Ehingbeti, oju o le ti eko. This speaks volumes and it literally means that for as long as there’s water is Eko, Eko can never be put to shame, Eko can never lack.
That brings to mind my journey of Eko in the 60’s when I was growing up in Olowogbowo, Ehingbeti area.
I keep wondering and asking myself unanswered questions about my new and best passion, MARITIME.
Living in natural harbor environment, with plenty of maritime activities, why didn’t we have indigenes as role models that would have influenced most of us to know about the wealth of the Oceans but there was NO INTENTIONAL INCLUSION by the players.
Well, what I didn’t know them, I have VOWED to plough back to the Girls with Ocean Ambassadors Foundation ngo by bringing the world of maritime at early ages to them because maritime is male dominated.
