The 2022 Celebration for the International Day of Girl Child

The annual school to sea program for the girl child took place on Monday 30th May, 2022. Our passion for empowering girls so they can grow up to be empowered women inspired us to celebrate the International Day for the girl child with this event.
The topic: Seafaring & Digitalization in Maritime Services. Is it a Career for the Girl Child? was discussed by Koni Maryamu Duniya. Koni is the president for the Female seafarers association of Nigeria. She joined Man Oron in 2002 and obtained ND in Boat building and shopping technology. She joined NLNG as Deck Cadet in 2005, trained at the Glasgow college of Nautical studies, obtained a HND and OOW unlimited Deck in 2009, sailed on board as a deck oficer until 2014. Koni went on to obtain a chief Officer unlimited from the UK and a degree in Maritime studies from the University of Portsmouth in the UK.
Koni has a very extraordinary portfolio and is a ground breaker and pace setter in the Maritime world. She educated the students present on how to navigate seafaring career as a woman and if she could do it, every girl child who desires to also can. We also had other speakers from the seafaring and Maritime industry speak to the girls. It was educative, fun and interactive as the students also got to ask questions and relate with one another.
We brought the event to a close by taking everyone present on a ship tour to get a premium view of what it is like in the ships and on the water and they enjoyed it.
